QPR and Bolton do battle for Juan Manuel Iturbe

Football Transfer Centre

Queens Park Rangers and Bolton are both battling to complete the signing of Paraguyan  international forward Juan Manuel Iturbe. Iturbe currently plays for Porto in the Portuguese Super League, but has failed to so far force his way into the first team regularly.

The 18 year old’s agent is currently in the process of finding him a move to England, and both Mark Hughes and Owen Coyle are in talks to land the talented forward.

The 5 foot 6 striker has been compared to Argentinian forward Javier Saviola, who has also been tracked by several Premier League clubs for many years.

Porto are not interested in a permanent move, but are keen to loan the player out so that he will acquire some first team experience.

Liverpool will complete the signing of Swedish goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt today, with the player expected at Anfield for transfer talks early on Monday morning. The Swedish international – who has 1 cap to his name – will sign a three year deal at Anfield.

Since being released by his hometown club Brommapojkarna, the 6 foot 3 shot stopper has attracted the interest of several of Europe’s biggest clubs including Ajax and Juventus.

However, Nordfeldt’s advisors told him to wait for a move to the Premier League, and Liverpool look set to complete his signing on Monday afternoon.

“It’s really exciting. I’ll be flying to Liverpool on Monday with my agent,” Nordfeldt told FotbollDirekt.se.

“Of course it feels good but I don’t want to get overexcited because of this. I’ll just try to play it cool and see what they want to offer me.

“I know myself and have worked hard these last few months. I know that Liverpool likes me and has watched me for a long time. They like me so all I can do is believe in myself.”

Wigan to make offer for Nicky Maynard

Football Transfer Centre

Wigan will make a transfer offer for highly rated Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard on Monday morning, as the Latics’ manager Roberto Martinez and club directors have been preparing a 4 million GBP move over the weekend.

According to reports, Maynard could complete a transfer before the end of the January transfer window.

Bristol City’s manager Derek McInnes admitted that talks are ongoing.

“There was contact from Wigan and the club’s agreed permission for them to speak to Nicky,” said Derek McInnes.

“Obviously the situation has been dragging on – I was aware of it when I came into the club. Nicky possesses the quality to play in the Premier League but ideally I would like him to work with us in the future but we haven’t agreed a contract.

“We’ve made him an offer and the club made a decision that we would try to sell him in January to look after our investment that we paid for him a few seasons ago.

“But there are a lot of factors involved in it. The club’s got to buy him, the club’s got to accept the offer and then the player has got to want to go. It will hopefully all settle itself down in the next couple of days.

“Once the window closes if he is still our player, he will be part of the squad and an important part of the squad.”

Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that Michael Ballack will be free to quit the club this summer. The former Chelsea midfielder has been told that he is no longer needed at the club and the 35-year-old is expected to have talks with other teams this week.

There have been some reports that Premier League sides are interested in Ballack, but Leverkusen have received no official offers as of yet.

“If a club report an interest in Michael Ballack, then we are also willing to talk about the issue,” said Leverkusen executive Wolfgang Holzhauser.

“But both Michael and this club are professional and we are all able to handle the next three months, (if that doesn’t happen).”

Paris St Germain have increased their offer for Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao from £14 million to a reported £18.5 million, as they pursue the Internacional forward before the transfer window slams shut tomorrow.

The 22-year-old – capped four times by Brazil – is a long time target for Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp, but so far Spurs have been unable to match the £23 million that his club have quoted.

Damiao last season scored 40 goals in 51 games for his club, and many in Brazil think that the striker is amongst the best in the country right now, but has yet to make the move to Europe because of his hefty price tag.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been scouting the forward, but Paris St Germain appear to be in pole position heading towards transfer deadline day.

Liverpool manager rules out last minute transfers

Football Transfer Centre

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has ruled out any last minute player moves before the transfer window closes tomorrow evening. The Reds had been linked with a loan move for Carlos Tevez, whilst Andy Carroll has reportedly been offered to rival Premier League teams.

But Dalglish has told reporters not to look too much into the speculation, as his business in the January transfer window is already done, before it even had the chance to start.

“There is no-one going in or out of the club before the transfer window [closes],” Dalglish said.

“There is nothing happening here. I don’t read the papers so I don’t know. “We have covered what we have to say. We don’t need to justify what people are speculating about do we.”

Everton have completed a move for Greek defender Kostas Manolas, after a fee of £500,000 has been agreed with AEK Athens. The Toffees have already agreed personal terms with the centre back, who will pen a four year contract at Goodison Park.

AEK Athens have been struggling financially in recent years, and have been forced to part with some of their best players, and Manolas heads the departures.

Manolas had a 4 million Euro release clause, but the cash strapped club were forced to sell the player cheaply this month.

Everton have beaten Newcastle, Everton and Blackburn to Manolas’ signature.

Arsenal will today complete the signing of Borussia Dortmund playmaker Thomas Eisfeld. The midfielder’s contract at the Westfalenstadion expires at the end of the year, and the German has decided not to extend his spell with BVB.

Arsenal will pay around 400,000 GBP compensation for the player, who sustained a serious injury in 2009. The Gunners are having thorough medical examinations on Eisfeld before completing a deal for the player.

Eisfeld has been playing for the under-19′s this year, and has not yet forced his way into the first team.

Pennant eyes Stoke City stay

Football Transfer Centre

Stoke City winger Jermaine Pennant has no plans to leave the Britannia Stadium despite talk of a move away this month. Pennant is unhappy that he has spent time on the substitutes bench this season.

Pennant said: “I’m in no rush to be going anywhere. I’ve not asked to leave and the club has not given a signal they want me to leave.

“As soon as the transfer window is over then I won’t have to answer these questions any more, and everyone will know I’ll be here.

“It’s frustrating for any player. You always want to start and play 90 minutes, but if it’s not happening then you have to keep plugging away.

“If you then get 40 minutes and you make some contribution to the game, then brilliant, like I have done in the last two games when I’ve come on and made a goal.

“Everyone knows what I’m capable of – I do as well – so when I get my chance, I’ll take it.

“The manager and I haven’t really spoken about why I’m not playing or when I’m going to play.

“He’s picking the team and it’s doing well, but I’m sure when I’m needed I’ll get that first-choice nod.”
